Staff have been working hard on the loose parts area based in the 2-3 room. The main focus has been adapting the area to provide more challenge and depth for the children. They have achieved this by moving the area to a larger space and adding a more diverse range of resources to provoke thought and to help support the use of children’s imagination. Recently large and small boxes were added to this area to enable children to participate with their peers through imaginative play, this supported creativity, self-expression, communication skills and problem solving skills. The children are spending more valuable time within the loose parts area since the changes and are making use of each individual resource. Other experiences that are on offer to the children within the loose parts are numbered tins. posting tins, natural resources e.g. acorns, jars, lids, plastic/cardboard boxes and a board with different locks on it. We have loose parts outside also to ensure it is in different areas of their learning. All of the experiences help support the main aim of having loose parts such as promoting a sense of adventure, problem solving, using imagination and creating endless amounts of possibility through creativity.
