Alongside the usual exploration of the varied resources in the baby room the children had lots of fun and enjoyment with some big and small cardboard boxes! We had everything from a boat, bed and seat to a walk in wardrobe! Lots of imaginative and role play happening here with minimal adult intervention or suggestion. The children were also displaying great sharing and turn taking with the boxes, with most waiting for their turn and then watching while their friends enjoyed themselves wherever their imagination took them.
Our focus this month was centred around Autumn. The children liked looking at the trees around about the nursery and we collected lots of different coloured leaves. We put the leaves in our box, along with some pumpkins, and used our senses to touch, feel, smell and look at the autumn mixture. The children then got creative with some paint – painting the leaves, pumpkins and themselves! These activities help the children to develop their language and fine motor skills as well as encouraging their natural curiosity.
The babies have been settling into the new nursery room and routine. Staff and babies have been forming bonds and the babies are now all settled and are becoming familiar with their nursery surroundings.
