August has been a busy month for developing maths skills throughout the playroom. Dominoes help to develop knowledge of shape and colour and can target different areas depending on children’s interests and previous knowledge. The children have been learning to count and identify numbers 0-10, but look closely and you will see they are learning about other languages too. Making playdough provides opportunities to measure ingredients and learn about the properties of materials such as liquids and solids. A bonus from all these experiences is the children are learning to be part of a group and share and turn take during the activities.
