Indoor as well as all the usual Christmas activities and fun the children enjoyed creating their own Christmas stories. They used their imagination and what they recalled from other stories to create their own story books. The children spent lots of time creating their own props to use in their imaginative role play. This role play was also reflected in their outdoor play where lose parts were used as props. There was also a focus on developing counting skills through different experiences.
The children have been focusing on their numeracy skills in nursery. They have been using counters to count and some have also been challenging themselves through learning how to add! As it has also been bonfire night the children were talking about fireworks and how to stay safe around them as a result they also created their own sparklers which where safer. It has also been road safety week were the children discussed what the different road signs meant to keep us safe and how to correctly cross the road.
We had a fun Halloween week with the children dressing up and participating in fun Halloween themed activities. Using a variety of board games and circle games the children have been developing their turn taking and listening skills. They have been learning how to listen to and follow instructions from adults. The children made firework pictures and rockets and spoke about their own firework experiences sharing their own ideas, thoughts and feelings.
The children have been really engaged in the construction area this month. They have been developing their problem solving skills as they role play going to work and building houses using the large bricks and wooden blocks as well as exploring the various different tools, screws and measuring equipment.
We have also developing their colour recognition through colour sorting activities. There has also been lots of sensory play. We have enjoyed making, gloop, play dough and shaving foam. These activities allow the children to develop her fine motor skills as well as develop their language as we discuss and compare the different textures.
The staff in the strawberry pod in the 3-5 room have been working on the new nursery routine and promoting independence and good hygiene throughout the day. The children have settled well into the new routine and room. The children have been enjoying the role play area.
